Getting started
Do I need an account?
No. You can install the app and start recording hours immediately without registering. An account becomes necessary for two things: syncing the same data across more than one device, and subscriptions, which are tied to an identity rather than to a device.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Recording, editing and reading your hours all work without a connection — which matters, because a lot of hourly work happens in places with no signal. A connection is needed for syncing between devices, for verifying a subscription, and for ads on the free tier.
Which platforms does it run on?
Android, iOS and the web. The web version runs in any modern browser at workinghours4b.com with no installation, in whichever of the supported languages your browser is set to. Using the same data on more than one of them requires a Premium subscription.
How do I move from a spreadsheet?
There is no spreadsheet import. In practice most people do not backfill — they start from the current month and keep the old spreadsheet as an archive. Backfilling a year of days by hand is a large job with little payoff, since the value of a time record is mostly in the months ahead of you.
Recording time
Can I record two shifts on the same day?
Yes. A day can hold multiple events, including shifts for different jobs, and a working event alongside a part-day absence.
How do I handle a night shift that crosses midnight?
Record it against one of the two days and use the same convention every time — conventionally the day the shift started. Consistency matters more than which one you choose; the shift work guide explains why.
Can I separate overtime from normal hours?
Yes, and you should. A working event holds the normal interval and the overtime as separate parts, each with its own pay, along with an optional early entry before the shift and a break inside it. See overtime and extra hours.
Does it track breaks?
Yes — a pause inside the working interval, which you can mark as paid or unpaid. Record the break you actually took rather than the one on the rota.
Can I record holidays and sick leave?
Yes. Holidays, work absences, travel days, notes, vouchers and fixed contributions are all separate event types that sit on the calendar alongside working days. See holidays, sick leave and absence.
Jobs, rates and money
Can I track more than one job?
A single job is free. Several jobs at once requires Premium. Each job carries its own hourly rate, colour, address and notes, and statistics can be filtered per job or shown across all of them.
What happens when my hourly rate changes?
Update the rate on the job. Entries already recorded keep the figures they were computed with. Note the effective date somewhere — a rate change is the most common explanation for an unexpected step in your earnings statistics.
Are the earnings figures gross or net?
Gross. The app multiplies hours by the rates you entered and adds or subtracts any fixed contributions. It knows nothing about tax or social contributions, so the figure will not match the net amount on a payslip. Compare gross to gross — see checking a payslip.
Does it handle an hour bank / time off in lieu?
Yes. The hour bank can be enabled with options for automatic accrual, for counting only extra hours, and for giving banked time an hourly value so the balance can be read in money as well as hours.
Data
Where is my data stored?
Without a subscription, on the device where you entered it. With Premium, it also syncs through your account so the same data is available on your other devices. The privacy policy sets out what is collected and how it is handled.
What happens if I lose my phone?
With sync enabled, sign in on the new device and the data is there. Without it, data held only on the lost device is gone. If your hours matter to you — and if you are tracking them they presumably do — this is the strongest practical argument for sync.
Can I attach photos to a day?
Yes, on the paid tiers: up to 5 images per event with Premium, up to 50 with Media, which also provides cloud storage for them. This is intended for photographs of timesheets, signed dockets or receipts, filed against the date they belong to.
How do I delete my account and data?
Write to info@workinghours4b.com and it will be handled. Your rights over your data, including erasure, are described in the privacy policy.
Subscriptions
What do the subscriptions add?
Premium removes ads and adds multiple jobs, cross-platform sync, family share, calendar synchronisation and up to 5 images per event. Media adds cloud storage for attachments and up to 50 images per event. Current prices in your own currency are shown on the pricing page.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Nothing is deleted. The features tied to the subscription stop being available — so with several jobs recorded, you keep your history but cannot continue adding across multiple jobs until you resubscribe.
Can I get a refund?
The refund policy sets out the terms. Subscriptions bought through Google Play or the App Store are also subject to those stores' own refund processes, which are handled by them rather than by us.
Scope
Is this a payroll system?
No. It records hours and computes gross earnings from rates you enter. It does not calculate tax or social contributions, does not produce net pay, and does not file anything with any authority.
Can I use it to manage my team's hours?
Working Hours 4b tracks your own time. For managing a team there is a separate app, Enterprise 4b.
Will it tell me if I am breaching working-time limits?
No. Working-time rules differ by country, sector and contract, and the app does not enforce any jurisdiction's limits or offer legal advice. It records the facts accurately, which is what any such question would need as its input.
Does it connect to my employer's clock-in system?
No, and that is deliberate. The record it holds is yours, kept independently, which is precisely what makes it useful for checking someone else's.
